BioWare’s recent announcement has resulted in “at least a few dozen” job losses, and employees are increasingly worried that more cuts may be imminent.
Following BioWare’s official blog post stating that not all staff were required for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, sources told InfoRealNow that layoffs occurred across various experience levels and tenures. This was confirmed when lead writer Trick Weekes posted on Bluesky about searching for a new position. Shortly after, narrative editor Ryan Cormier also revealed he had been let go, with multiple other former employees sharing similar news online.
The uncertainty has left remaining staff anxious about further layoffs. One employee admitted they “expect it to happen,” while another described the situation as feeling like “we’re waiting for another wave.”
Despite the next Mass Effect game ramping up in development, an internal evaluation is reportedly underway to identify areas for improvement in production and workflow.
InfoRealNow has reached out to EA and BioWare for comments regarding the layoffs and concerns from employees who remain at the studio. Any response will be added to this article upon receipt.
Adding to the turmoil, EA’s preliminary Q3 FY2025 earnings report, released on January 22, revealed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard missed internal player expectations by roughly 50%. The following day, EA’s stock plummeted by 17%, wiping out nearly $6 billion in market value.
